Ben Harper
There are some more contemporary figures that have Native American heritage. Among these contemporary figures is Ben Harper, a very popular solo-act in the music world. Ben Harper has Cherokee ancestry on his father's side. Harper is known as one of the most critically successful "independent" acts of his generation, and has contributed large sums of money to various campaigns to raise social awareness on racial issues. His heritage is actually very mixed, with Jewish and African-American descent in his background as well. |

One example of a businessman that made a big name for himself is David Anderson, the head of the "Famous Dave's" chain of restaurants. Dave Anderson is an Ojibwe native of Minnesota that grew up on and off reservations for most of his childhood. He was raised on traditional native values, and has applied those values throughout his business career. He helped to develop and create Rainforest Cafe, which has reached an immense level of profitability in its own rite. After attaining his Masters in Public Administration from Harvard, he worked for years to help struggling Native American businesses reach financial success. His dream was to open a barbeque restaurant, and in 1994 he was able to realize that dream. "Famous Dave's Barbeque" is now a major restaurant chain that can be found throughout the United States. In 2004, Dave Anderson became the Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs. It was a position that gave him the opportunity to find ways to help native communities thrive under increasing economic pressures. He currently runs a non-profit organization called the LifeSkills [sic] Center for Leadership, whose mission is to provide leadership training and assistance to at-risk youth in order to help them maximize their potential in life.

Will Rogers 1879-1935
Born William Peen Adair Rogers, a Cherokee-Cowboy, “Will” became best known as an actor, a Vaudvillian, a philanthropist, a social commentator, a comedian, and a presidential candidate. Known as Okalahoma’s favorite son, Rogers was born to a well respected Native American Territory family and learned to ride horses and use a lasso/lariat so well that he was listed in the Guiness Book of World Records for throwing three ropes at once—one around the neck of a horse, another around the rider, and a third around all four legs of the horse. He ultimately traveled around the world several times, made 71 films (50 silent and 21 “talkies”), wrote more than 4,000 nationally-syndicated newspaper columns, and became a world-famous figure. He died in a plane crash in 1935. http://listverse.com/2007/11/20/top-...ive-americans/ |

JOHN HERRINGTON - Astronaut, of the Chickasaw Nation. Herrington is the first Native American to walk in space when launched November 23, 2002 aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor. О! У меня на работе такая медсестра есть. Когда списки "новобранцев" просматривал, вижу "Денис Саркисян", а вместо армянского мальчика оказалась американская тётенька с фамилией от первого брака.
